SMWC’s Equine Program, the only one in Indiana to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Equine Studies, is one of 20 equestrian colleges across the U.S. to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Equine Studies.
Approximately 50 college-owned horses are housed in a historic 1925 barn and stable alongside a new barn that features stables, laboratory/classroom and faculty offices, built in 2002 along with indoor and outdoor arenas. SMWC sponsors two equestrian teams, which participate in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association and compete in an average of 23 shows per year. Eight on-sight competitions bring teams, coaches, show personnel and audiences from several other states to Vigo County.
